Crash claims life of Grapeland man

A two-vehicle crash on U.S. 287 north at the intersection of FM 2423 on Friday, April 25 claimed the life of Grapeland resident Charles Trammell.

According to reports, the 79-year-old Trammell was driving a late model Chevrolet that was struck by a Loomis armored car driven by Kevin Green, 42, of Missouri City.

Authorities said the crash occurred about 9:51 a.m. after Trammell failed to yield right-of-way after stopping at the stop sign on FM 2423 and while trying to cross U.S. 287.

Trammell was airlifted to ETMC Tyler by PHI Air Med 11 where he died from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

No citations were issued by the Grapeland Police Department and no other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Grapeland Volunteer Fire Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Houston County Sheriff's Office, TxDOT and Constable Precinct 2 Red Smith also responded to the scene.
