SWAT team arrests man after threats to officials
LIVINGSTON — Offi cers with the Polk County Sheriff’s Offi ce Special Response Team, often referred to as the SWAT team, arrested Kirk Alexander Berry, 45, of Livingston at his home in the Lakeshore II subdivision Monday night after he sent letters threatening the death of a peace offi cer, a judge and a lawmaker if his demands were not met. The letters were sent to state legislators, according to a statement released by Sheriff Kenneth Hammack Tuesday. Joining in the multiagency effort to serve search and arrest warrants were Pct. 2 Constable Bill Cunningham, Pct. 4 Constable Dana “Bubba” Piper, Texas Rangers and the Texas Attorney General’s office. Berry was arrested without incident at 8:17 p.m. Monday, according to Lt. Mark Jones. The warrants were obtained after the AG’s office and the Texas Rangers investigated the threat reports. |
