LIVINGSTON — A pickup truck pulling a trailer became stuck on the pavement on East Abbey St. at the railroad tracks at 5:41 a.m. Thursday and was struck by a southbound Union Pacifi c train, Livingston Police Department reports show. Robert Lake of Livingston had been westbound on Abbey St. when the jack on the trailer hitch became lodged in the pavement as the truck and trailer crossed the train tracks, according to Offi cer Kevin Blackburn, the lead investigator. The driver exited the vehicle, left the truck and trailer on the track and was able to move a safe distance away from the vehicles before the train struck. The two occupants of the train engine were also uninjured in the incident. The train was brought to a stop and blocked several railroad crossings in Livingston until about 9 a.m. Thursday. All 10 east to west streets in the city of Livingston were blocked, so motorists detoured to the Loop 59 bypass until the wreckage was cleared. No charges were fi led in connection with the incident, LPD reports show.
