ONALASKA — Onalaska Independent School District trustees heard a presentation by Region VI Coordinator Steve Johnson as the district finalized plans Monday for classes to begin Aug. 24. Johnson recognized OISD as one of seven districts to attend superintendent certification programs. The region recognized Superintendent Lynn Redden as a mentor to Charles Boyce, principal of the Junior/Senior High School who attended the program. Elementary Principal Hannah Williams reported her campus plans safari-style activities complementing their theme for the new year “Positively Wild About Onalaska Elementary School.” Williams also reported there will be a grandparents luncheon held Sept. 11 when students’ grandparents are invited to have lunch with the kids. Adults lunches will be $3. Charles Boyce reported Terry Carlton and Rebecca Burnham will join the staff at the junior senior high school and all positions are filled for the 2009-2010 school year. Boyce also said Wildcat cheerleaders received an overall superior rating during camp at Texas A&M. Volleyball season has begun with a varsity tournament with Groveton set for Aug. 20 and junior varsity and varsity home games with Diboll Aug. 21. Superintendent Lynn Redden reported two special budget meetings will be held Aug. 25 and 31. Trustees discussed budget matters briefly with no action taken. The next regular board meeting will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at the OISD administration building.
