Driver killed in collision with tree

LIVINGSTON — A momentary distraction had disastrous consequences for a Big Thicket Lake Estates resident Tuesday. Lindie Lucille Boone, 32, was was driving north on Royce Drive near the boundary line between Polk and Liberty counties at 11:57 a.m. Tuesday. Her 12-year-old daughter told Trooper Ramey Bass with the Texas Department of Public Safety that Boone had looked into the rearview mirror at a truck approaching them from behind and reached for her seatbelt. As the driver looked away from the road, the vehicle swerved and hit a tree crushing the driver’s side of the vehicle. Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Darrell Longino pronounced Boone dead at the scene of the crash. The juvenile passenger was taken to Memorial Medical Center-Livingston with minor scratches and bruises. First responders from South Polk County Volunteer Fire Department were called to the scene as well as nine firefighters with Livingston VFD who used the Jaws of Life to extricate Boone from the wreckage.
