Lightning sparks fire at oil field east of Big Sandy
Polk County Enterprise
BIG SANDY — Lightning from a passing thunderstorm Monday afternoon ignited a fiberglass storage tank at an oilfield on Camp Seale Road at about 2:30 p.m. Monday. Crews from Livingston, the Alabama-Coushatta Nation and Segno volunteer fire departments responded to the fire that raged on despite heavy rainfall that fell for about a half-hour. First responders included Emergency Management Coordinator Larry Shine, Americare EMS and sheriff’s deputies from Polk and Tyler counties. Oil company personnel shut down the well and firefighters staged a short distance away to allow the fire to burn off much of the fuel. Crews then laid down a blanket of foam to extinguish flames that were burning condensate from the well and cool down equipment in the area, according to Captain Preston Jones, who acted as incident commander. Fire Chief Corky Cochran and Assistant Chief John Haynes are attending fire school at Texas A&M University. LVFD dispatched two trucks and nine firefighters; two trucks and six fighters from the ACVFD and two trucks and six firefighters from Segno VFD. One firefighter from South Polk County VFD was also on scene
