LIVINGSTON — Two Livingston men driving to work Thursday found the body of a woman in the middle of Old Woodville Road a mile and a half from the Livingston City Limits just after 7 a.m., according to a family member of one of the witnesses. Sheriff Kenneth Hammack confirmed his department is investigating the death as a homicide. He said deputies had been aggressively pursuing leads in the case throughout the day Thursday. The woman was identified at Heather Dorris, 25, of Polk County. Witnesses said she appeared to be shot, stabbed and dumped out of the car. The body was taken to the medical examiner’s office for autopsy. The victim’s car was found near the body. It is being processed for evidence at the DPS Crime Lab. Just before 6 p.m. Thursday deputies returned to the scene after receiving information that a possible suspect was in the area. Hammack said the Texas Rangers and scent-tracking dogs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice are assisting in the investigation. Due to the New Year’s holiday, the Enterprise had an early print deadline Thursday night.
