Local soldier awarded Purple Heart
Gen. David Petraeus presented a Purple Heart to Sgt. Chris Hatton of Livingston on Dec. 22, 2010, for injuries he suffered when an IED exploded near him during a foot patrol on July 30 in Afghanistan. His wife, Kristi Hatton, said the decorated soldier is scheduled to return home in June. Sgt. Hatton suffered a traumatic brain injury, shrapnel in his leg and some burns on his face that left minor scaring. “His best friend stepped on the IED and didn’t make it,” Kristi said. Sgt. Hatton returned to active duty after recuperating from his injuries.
