PCSO jails 2 for attempt to manufacture meth

LEGGETT — Acting on a tip that two people were attempting to purchase ingredients to possibly manufacture methamphetamine, narcotics investigators with the Polk County Sheriff’s Offi ce arrested two people for possession of a controlled substance and possession of chemicals with intent to manufacture, said PCSO spokesman Capt. Rickie Childers. At about 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, an employee of a local business contacted PCSO about the suspicious purchase. Narcotics Det. Randy Turner located and stopped the vehicle northbound on U.S. 59 while it was enroute to the Lufkin area based on the caller’s description with assistance from patrol deputy Terri Mayer. Fellow narcotics investigators Lt. Andy Lowrie and Sgt. Howard Smith also arrived at the scene of the traffi c stop. Offi cers searched the vehicle as well as the driver and passenger. The search turned up a large amount of the substances used to manufacture methamphetamine. The passenger, who was identifi ed as Thomas Dan Shoemaker of Pineland, had just been released from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice three weeks prior to the traffi c stop. The driver was identifi ed as Sandra King of Lufkin. Both Shoemaker and King were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of chemicals with intent to manufacture.
