ESC sets board election

The terms of office for three places on the Board of Directors of Education Service Center, Region VI, an organization that provides educational services to school districts and charter schools in 15 counties in southeast Texas, will expire on May 31. The ESC Board consists of seven members who are elected to a specific place on the Board for a term of three years and one non-voting, appointed representative of charter schools. Persons interested in filing for positions on the Board may do so at the office of the Executive Director (3332 Montgomery Road, Huntsville) during regular office hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), Monday through Friday beginning Feb. 1, 2009. Deadline for filing is 4:30 p.m. Feb. 20, 2009. Interested persons may file in person or may receive a filing form by mail with the return by certified mail postmarked no later than 4:30 p.m. Feb. 20. Call (936) 435- 8400 or mail a request to 3332 Montgomery Road Huntsville, Texas 77340 The positions up for election this year are: • Place 1 (Grimes and Walker counties) • Place 2 (Polk, San Jacinto, and Trinity counties) • Place 3 (Austin, Burleson, and Washington counties) To hold the office of member of an ESC Board of Directors one must: be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age and a resident of that ESC region Directors cannot have been engaged professionally in education or a member of a board of any educational agency or institution Each local school board member in the region has a vote for each vacancy unless there is an uncontested election. Votes will be cast at the first board meeting in March.
