Victim of Corrigan car crash dies at Beaumont hospital
CORRIGAN The students and faculty at Corrigan- Camden High School and the community of Corrigan are saddened due to the loss of one of the high school students who passed away Monday due to injuries sustained in an automobile crash that happened on Sunday. Victoria Michelle Foster, 16, of Corrigan and a junior at Corrigan-Camden High School along with her best friend Jillian Spaw were involved in a one-vehicle accident on Sunday on a return trip home to Corrigan from Colmesneil. The two Corrigan teenagers crashed into a tree on a curve near the old Barnes Packing Plant on FM 1745 between Colmesneil and Chester. According to Department of Public Safety Sergeant Steve Holloway, Spaw, a 16- year old junior at Corrigan- Camden High School and Foster, the driver of a 2000 Ford Mustang, were travelling at a high rate of speed after visiting friends. The Mustang left the roadway and drove into loose gravel, causing Foster to lose control, sending the car into a tree and splitting it in half. Foster was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Beaumont Sunday afternoon by medical helicopter in Beaumont where she died at 11:55 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9. Spaw was transported to Tyler County Hospital in Woodville and was released and reported in good condition. C-CISD had counselors on hand this week to help students and faculty deal with the loss. Foster was the daughter of Joel Foster of Corrigan and Sherri Burrous of Diboll and the granddaughter of Jerry Cockrell and Patricia Thompson of Corrigan. She also is survived by a sister, Sara Foster Fann and a brother, Christopher Foster. Foster was a lifelong resident of Corrigan and attended Angelina College. A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured Sunday when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a car on U.S. 190 near Spring Creek. The youngster was crossing the highway from Magnolia Street to Gray Drive at approximately 3:30 p.m. when he was struck by a 2005 Nissan Sentra driven by Brittney Taylor, 20, of Huffman, according to Trooper Kevin Burman. The impact knocked the boy from the bicycle and he landed in a grassy area south of the pavement. He was taken by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Livingston and later transported by medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. No charges have been filed. Also investigated was a log truck accident at 3:12 p.m. Friday on FM 943. A 1994 Mack truck, towing a pole trailer loaded with logs, was southbound. The driver, 28-year-old Edwin Douglas Fann of Chester, told Burman that an unidentified vehicle was partially blocking the southbound lane so he drove onto the road shoulder. The load of logs shifted, Fann lost control of the truck and the truck and trailer overturned onto the road shoulder. Fann, listed with non-incapacitating injuries, was transported by ambulance to the Livingston hospital. He was ticketed for not wearing a seat belt. Two people were taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle accident at 6:45 a.m. Jan. 12 on U.S. 59 in Goodrich. A 2001 Toyota Corolla driven by Glenda Robbins, 62, of Shepherd was northbound when it was struck in the rear by a log truck driven by Joney Wyatt, 60, of Coldspring, according to Trooper Ramey Bass.
