Area Agency on Aging need volunteers for ‘Controlling Chronic Illness’ workshops

JASPER – The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) of Deep East Texas is looking for people who want to help others learn to better control chronic illnesses. There is no prior teaching experience required – just a desire to help themselves, and others, better manage their diabetes, arthritis, asthma, high blood pressure, heart or lung disease, sickle cell, pain, depression, or other on-going health conditions. There are four days of mandatory training. The training sessions are scheduled for Jan. 11, 12, 18 and 19. The sessions will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. the Deep East Texas Council of Governments office at 210 Premier Drive in Jasper. “The information, tips and techniques we have to offer are geared towards people who want to help themselves, and others, better manage these chronic diseases,” says Holly Anderson, the AAA Director. There is no fee for participating in the program. Snacks and beverages will be provided during the breaks.
