First Baptist Church planning for mid-October moving day
Polk County Enterprise - July 2008

LIVINGSTON — Since 1904 First Baptist Church has made its home on the corner of Tyler and Calhoun streets in Livingston. That site is now up for sale in preparation for the congregation’s move to new facilities on North Houston, according to Minister of Music Kevan Wood. Now that for-sale signs are planted on the property, Wood emphasizes that its the building, not the church, that’s being sold.

Wood has received inquiries from potential buyers that would like to continue using the site as a house of worship. A Huntsville-based church and another pastor with a church between Woodville and Beaumont have inquired about the FBC facilities. A third inquiry was for a private school, Wood said. First Baptist’s Wadsworth Center will be purchased by the City of Livingston which has already executed an intent to buy contract, Wood said. If the main sanctuary, parking lot, offi ces and three education buildings don’t sell by October, the church will begin to consider offers from those interested in buying part of the property.
