OPD: 12 arrested on minor charges
Polk County Enterprise - July 2008

ONALASKA — The hundreds of people gathered near the U.S. 190 causeway over Lake Livingston were cooperative and peaceful during Friday night’s fi reworks display, according to Police Chief Ron Gilbert. Only 12 people from that capacity crowd had to be taken into custody for misdemeanor offenses during the event. The arrests were made for public intoxication, underage drinking, and a couple of cases of possession of marijuana, Gilbert said. A van from the Polk County Sheriff’s Department transported the dozen suspects from the event to the Polk County jail at about 10 p.m.

Gilbert credited assistance from the Onalaska Volunteer Fire Department, the Polk County Sheriff’s Offi ce, EMS, Polk County constables and game wardens for such a smoothly running event. “We especially want to thank the fi re department because they were right down here with us,” Gilbert said. “They cooked fajitas and fed all the offi cers and workers before the event and then stayed until the last folks left at about 10:30 p.m.”
