LIVINGSTON — Polk County has been selected by the State Set- Aside Committee to receive an additional $7,500 in federal funding from the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) to supplement food and shelter programs within Polk County, according to a statement released by County Judge John Thompson. The local board, consisting of representatives from affiliates of the voluntary organizations composing the National Board will determine how the funds will be distributed among qualified local organizations or agencies that request funding. Under the terms of the award, local governmental or private organizations chosen to receive funds must: 1) be private, voluntary nonprofit organizations or units of government; 2) have an accounting system; 3) practice nondiscrimination; 4) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 5) if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board. Qualified organizations are urged to apply for this funding by submitting written requests to: Emergency Food & Shelter Local Board — ARRA State Set-Aside Funding, John P. Thompson, Chair, 101 W.
