4-year-old dies from injuries in crash involving Corrigan man

LUFKIN — Early Thursday, Christopher Gross, 4, of Lufkin became the third victim to die from injuries suffered in an alcohol- related car crash in Burke May 30, according to reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Gross suffered a broken neck and internal injuries. He died at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. Vicente Gonzalez, 30, of Corrigan was driving southbound in the northbound land of traffi c on U.S. 59 in Burke two miles north of Diboll when he ran head-on into a northbound vehicle shortly after midnight last Saturday, troopers reported. The little boy’s mother, Crystal Thomas, 29, of Lufkin and Willie Lacy, 48, of Alto died in the wreck. A second child Joveair Thomas, 7, was also taken to the Dallas hospital with injuries to his chest and other internal organs. Gonzalez was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston with two broken legs and is expected to be charged with at least two counts of intoxication manslaughter upon release from the hospital. DPS reports say his blood alcohol level was .228, nearly three times the legal limit for driving while intoxicated.
