DPS: 2 injured after driver failed to yield at open intersection Friday
LIVINGSTON – Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident at 2:40 p.m. Friday on U.S. 190 at Stewart Road. A 2009 Toyota Rav-4 driven by Imogene Swain Vest, 75, of Lufkin was attempting to enter Stewart Road from a crossover and failed to yield right of way to an eastbound 2004 Chrysler Pacific driven by Nathaniel Carter Jr., 44, Livingston, according to Trooper Robert Akers. Vest, listed with non-incapacitating injuries, was transported by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Livingston. Three passengers in her vehicle were listed as uninjured. Carter and two passengers in his vehicle were also listed as uninjured, but a third passenger, 27-year-old Vernea Gardner, was taken to the hospital with non-incapacitating injuries. Vest was charged with failure to yield right of way from an open intersection. Carter was charged with driving while license invalid and failure to maintain financial responsibility. Also investigated by the Texas Highway Patrol was a one-vehicle accident at 1:19 p.m. Saturday on Hwy. 146 near Capps Road. A 1995 Toyota 4-Runner driven by Lena Deneyse Green, 27, of Livingston was northbound and, according to witnesses, was traveling at an excessive speed and swerving in and out of traffic, according to Trooper Christopher Cain. Green attempted a right turn onto East Capps Road and lost control of the vehicle, the trooper said. The Toyota slid sideways across Capps Road and rolled one time, coming to rest in a ditch. Green was listed with non-incapacitating injuries, but declined treatment at the scene. She was charged with DWI and driving while license invalid. |
