PCSO probing death in Holiday Lakes
Polk County Enterprise - March 2009
LIVINGSTON — Detectives with the Polk County Sheriff’s Offi ce and the Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a 50- year-old Holiday Lakes Estates woman reported on Feb. 16. Capt. Rickie Childers, head of PCSO’s Criminal Investigation Division, said a neighbor called 911 after fi nding Linnie Jo Sanders dead in her residence. When deputies arrived they determined the death was suspicious and notifi ed detectives, Childers said. “Once detectives arrived they determined the need for a search warrant. They obtained the search warrant and searched the residence,” Childers said. PCSO detectives also requested assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Lab in Houston as well as Texas Ranger Ron Duff. Investigators found the victim’s husband, Del Ray Sanders, had been at the residence at the time of her death. Childers described the husband as being under the infl uence of an unknown substance and “incoherent” when offi cers fi rst attempted to interview him. He was taken to Memorial Medical Center-Livingston for medical treatment. Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Darrell Longino held an inquest and pronounced Mrs. Sanders dead at the scene. Her body was taken to the Harris County Medical Examiners offi ce for an autopsy. Detectives interviewed Del Ray Sanders Tuesday morning. He was then charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury and is being held in the Polk County jail with a $100,000 bond. The investigation is continuing, Childers added. Detectives are waiting for the outcome of tests on evidence collected at the scene which are under way at the DPS crime lab as well as the fi nal autopsy report. When asked if PCSO had responded to other reports of family violence at the Sanders’ residence, Childers said, “there is a history there.”
