Freeman Trust pledges $50,000 to Polk County College campaign

LIVINGSTON – The Sigrid G. Freeman Trust has pledged $50,000 to the Polk County College/Commerce Center, fundraising Co-Chairman Martha Watson announced Tuesday. Freeman, a member of a pioneer family of Polk County, traces her roots back to 1827-1828. Throughout the generations, her family has contributed to the growth and development of the area. Freeman herself has been active in community affairs for years and is happy to be a part of Polk County’s history. A lifelong learner herself, she is especially interested in education. This love of education comes in part from her mother, Nelwyn Freeman, who taught more than 37 years in the Leggett and Livingston public schools. Many students who graduated from either school in the 1950s, 60s or 70s were touched by her devotion to and education of her students. Freeman says she is “happy to be a part of the growth of the county through the establishment of the community college” and hopes to be able to take some continuing education classes there herself someday.
