Polk County Enterprise
GOODRICH — Goodrich Independent School District was among only eight districts in Texas to receive grant funds from the Texas Education Agency’s High Schools That Work program. Goodrich High School will receive $83,000 to fund 2,000 new library books, additional training for teachers and a rigorous evaluation by the Southern Regional Education Board that will give Goodrich administrators guidance on how to make the high school program even better, principal Scott Roy announced March 12. Teachers will attend a Rice University conference on Pre AP and AP classes and the Career and Technology Conference, Roy added. The program goals set by the national program include expanding students’ opportunities to learn a rigorous academic core, build better relationships between students and adults and provide personal attention to students and parents and focus school leadership on supporting what and how teachers teach, according to the TEA website. The grant period is from May 1, 2010 to April 30, 2012.
