Polk County Enterprise
LIVINGSTON — A traffi c stop on a vehicle matching the description of one involved in a theft led to the arrest of two Livingston residents on felony marijuana charges. At about 10 a.m. Wednesday March 3, Patrol Deputy Daren Crow stopped the vehicle and identifi ed the occupants as Michael Hoffer and Ronnie McCarty. After speaking to the two men, it was learned that the third person in the possible theft was at a residence in a nearby subdivision. Crow then went to 154 Kevin Street in the Menard Creek Subdivision to speak to the third suspect in the possible theft case that he was working. Once at the residence Deputy Crow made contact with Shirley Hoffer and David Wright. As Deputy Crow spoke to the suspects he smelled an odor of burnt marijuana coming from the interior of the residence. Crow then notified narcotics investigators. Lt. Andy Lowrie, Sgt. Howard Smith and Det. Randy Turner all responded and gained consent to search the residence. During the search, approximately two ounces of marijuana was located in a bedroom occupied by McCarty and Shirley Hoffer. Both were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana less than two ounces. David Wright was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. All three were transported to the Polk County Jail. Both Shirley Hoffer and McCarty were later arrested for two counts of felony delivery of marijuana stemming from a three month long investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division.
