Relay For Life is infecting the town with ‘purple fever’
Businesses and Individuals around Polk County are gearing up for the month of April to showcase their support of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. This year’s event is Friday, April 27 and the committee is hoping the entire county will embrace the Texas theme and catch some purple fever. Tshirts for the event are being sold by teams and at various businesses around town like My Place Eatery. This year’s theme is centered around Texas with “Ropin’, Ridin’, and Survivin’” being the slogan. The shirts for the event have this slogan and/or other graphics pertaining to the theme and the courage of cancer survivors. One shirt has a quote from John Wayne which reads, “Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway.” The committee believes that it takes a lot of courage and strength for some cancer survivors and their caregivers just to get through the day. New to Relay this year are the purple ribbons which are being sold to individuals and businesses to use to decorate their doors, mailboxes, etc to show their support of Relay For Life. The ribbons are $5 and all proceeds go to the Polk County Relay For Life. If you or your business would like to catch the purple fever, please contact Debbie Davis at 936-967-1102. “We are hoping that all of Polk County will show some support for our cancer survivors. Just think how special it would make a cancer survivor feel knowing that the business they just walked into displayed a purple ribbon in honor of them,” says Debbie, chairperson for this year’s event.er report for FY 2012. • Authorize Pct. 1 to advertise for bids for the bulkheading of Taylor Lake Road at the Trinity River. |
