Four injured in Polk Co. crashes

LIVINGSTON – Four people were injured in two separate accidents on Polk County highways Saturday. The first occurred at 3:15 p.m. on U.S. 190, west of FM 2457. A 2003 Honda CRV driven by Taryn Ann Kovascevich, 29, of Texas City was eastbound when an identified vehicle attempted to turn left off U.S. 190. Kovascevich steered to the right, going onto the highway shoulder, then overcorrected to the left, according to Trooper Darwon Evans. The Honda crossed the eastbound and westbound lanes, the driver overcorrected to the right, and the vehicle rolled onto its top and left side in a ditch on the northbound side of the highway. Kovascevich, listed with non-incapacitating injuries, and a 2-year-old child in the car, listed with possible injuries, were taken by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Livingston. No charges were filed. Also investigated Saturday was a one-vehicle accident at 5:20 p.m. on FM 357, approximately one-half mile west of U.S. 59. A 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Zack Wesley Pion, 42, of Corrigan was eastbound and the driver failed to negotiate a curve, according to Trooper Robert Akers. The pickup traveled south off the road, then traveled back across the road, striking an embankment and rolling over, coming to rest upright. Pion, listed with nonincapacitating injuries, and a passenger, 17-year-old Daniel Patrick Austin, listed with incapacitating injuries, were transported by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Lufkin. No charges have been filed pending results of a blood test on the driver. Two people were injured in a one-vehicle accident at 3:45 p.m. Nov. 4 on FM 3126, south of FM 350. A 1996 Ford Explorer driven by Kenneth Ray Clark, 44, of Tomball was southbound when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle went off the right side of the road and the driver overcorrected to the right and then back to the left, according to Evans. The Explorer rolled onto its left side and top. Clark, listed with nonincapacitating injuries, and a passenger, 45-year-old Hugh Wesley Bradley Jr., listed with possible injuries, were taken by ambulance to the Livingston hospital. Clark has been charged with second offense DWI.
