Early voting turnout remains heavy

LIVINGSTON — In the 2008 General election nearly 70 percent of voters cast ballots during the early voting period. As of Tuesday afternoon, 10,799 ballots had already been cast and early voting by personal appearance will continue through Friday. As of 1 p.m. Tuesday, 6,056 Polk Countians have voted in person at the courthouse, the Onalaska sub-courthouse on the Sechrest Webster Community Center in Corrigan, County Clerk Schelana Walker said. At this pace, that early voting turnout could exceed the 2008 early turnout of 14,133. A total of 5,554 voters had applied for mail ballots as of 1 p.m. Tuesday with the deadline looming at 5 p.m. Walker’s office has already received completed mail ballots from 4,743 voters. For those that decide to wait until Nov. 6, they must vote as their assigned polling place.
