Big Sandy trustees unopposed, election canceled

DALLARDSVILLE – Big Sandy Independent School District trustees appointed board officers during its regular meeting on Sept. 29 at the administration building conference room. Trustees approved the appointments of Sissie Hendrix as board president, Bo Tolar as vice president and Darrell Murphy as secretary by unanimous vote. The board approved an adjunct faculty agreement with the Polk County Extension Service and approval of a resolution to sanction 4-H as an extracurricular activity which allows students to participate in 4-H activities away from campus and not be counted absent. In other business, election judges for the Nov. 4 bond election were approved unanimously. The election judges are Marion LeBlance, Patsy Alston, Beverly Moore, Kathy Phillips, Kimberly Moye, Winnie Hendrix, Olivia Abbey and Terri Bullock. A certification of unopposed candidates was presented for board member election. Bo Tolar is the only candidate for Position 2, Darrell Murphy for Position 4, Justin Cude for Position 5 and Matthew Hendrix in Position 6. An order of cancellation for the board member election was passed unanimously.
The unopposed candidates will be presented to the board during the November session. Trustees approved a TASB Risk Management insurance contract by unanimous vote also. Administrative reports were presented to the board by Elementary principal Kevin Foster, Junior High principal Eric Carpenter and high school principal Dianne Holbrook. Superintendent Kenneth Graham presented reports on enrollment, attendance, academics, transportation and facilities as well as other school matters. The Board adjourned to executive session to discuss submission of bids received and returned to open session. A bid from L&L Cleaning and Mowing in the amount of $9,500 for non-turf mowing was presented and passed for approval.
