Where’s Sam?
Polk County Enterprise - October 2008

LIVINGSTON – “Where’s Sam?” Have you seen the signs and wondered who is Sam and, ok, where is he? Well, Sam is a fi sh character and Sam moves around the city fi shing for merchandise, food and fun in the stores of local merchants. The fi shy little character is based on Sam the mascot for Livingston- Polk County Chamber of Commerce with the theme “Hooked On Lake Livingston.” The Livingston Specialty Merchants Guild animates the fi shy character by allowing him to paint, play golf, cook, c a n o e , and go shopping among other activities. Sam moves around the city each week stopping at a local store or “secret fi shing hole.”

The merchant is required to display a 4-foot Sam character somewhere on the business premises. Customers can fi nd the weekly clue of Sam’s location in the classifi ed section of the Polk County Enterprise and visit the store where they believe Sam to be. The customer announces, “I found Sam” to receive merchandise, discounts, gifts or food depending on the retailer or merchant. S a m ’ s location is as varied as the Merchant’s Guild. From a n t i q u e s , f l o r i s t s , bookstores, pottery, and f a s h i o n , to restaurants, hardware stores, lodging, and more, the wide selection of merchants have combined efforts to highlight and offer their goods and services to area consumers. Savvy shoppers and locals are already searching each edition of the classified section to find the clues and weekly merchant.

The “Where’s Sam” campaign continues through December 28 so there is time to join in the fun. Many local merchants are displaying the “Where’s Sam” sign to remind and encourage residents to search for Sam. Sam wants to be found each week. He will have a weekly comment about the store after the week of his stay to a n n o u n c e how many p e o p l e found him or comments f r o m customers. Can you find Sam each week? A m y Cherry of the Clay Cup in Livingston recently hosted Sam and said, “The Where’s Sam signs and classified clues have sparked interest with customers. The campaign is fun and highlights the variety of community retailers and merchants in the Livingston area.” Sam is a clever creation sparking fun and imagination of local merchants as well as the community. With the devastation of a large storm behind us, and the rebuilding process well under way, “Where’s Sam?” offers the community a lighthearted outlet with a little mystery and thought provoking fun provided by retailers and merchants who continue to represent the community with services and products.
