Polk County Enterprise - October 2009
LIVINGSTON — After DPS trooper Brent Murray was flagged down by a motorist who reported a wreckless driver on U.S. 59 North, he and Polk County sheriff’s deputies pursued a dark gray pickup truck from Seven Oaks to just north of Livingston Saturday. When Murray initiated a traffic stop at 10:42 a.m. Saturday, David Wayne Sledge, 43, of Livingston attempted to flee. According to radio traffic during the pursuit, Sledge’s vehicle was clocked at 75 miles an hour during the pursuit and at one point he narrowly missed hitting pedestrians. Deputies and Livingston police joined the pursuit and a PCSO unit was set up at the U.S. 59 bypass near Livingston Junior High to deploy spikes to deflate the tires of the pickup and force it to stop. Murray got the driver to stop near the intersection of Beauty Shop Road about two miles north of Livingston. Sledge was taken to the Polk County and charged with DWI- 2nd offense and evading, a state jail felony.
