Arson charges filed in 2010 car fire
ONALASKA —On Dec. 28, 2010, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call concerning a vehicle that was reported on fire in the Creekside Subdivision in Onalaska. The vehicle was identified as a 2005 Dodge truck. The vehicle belonged to Justin Daniel Myers of Onalaska. Polk County Fire Marshall Jay Barbee conducted the initial investigation concerning this fire. Originally the Fire Marshal and Sheriff’s Office were advised the fire was electrical in nature. After further investigation by the Fire Marshall’s Office and the insurance company’s fraud department it was discovered the fire was intentionally started. This investigation was concluded in July 2012. On July 27, 2012 Detectives from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office were advised of the case status and conducted an interview with Justin Myers concerning this case. During the interview it was discovered Justin Myers intentionally started the fire in order to claim the truck on his insurance policy. A warrant was issued for Justin Myers for Arson. Myers was arrested Sept. 27. Bond was set at $25,000.
