LIVINGSTON — The owners of Emergency Hospitals of Texas say the recent denial of their request for a tax abatement won’t impact their decision to build a state of the art emergency room at the intersection of U.S. 190 and 59. “It will be the best East Texas has seen,” said Dr. Kashaf Ansari. “We want to deliver the highest possible standard of care.” A ground-breaking ceremony for the 10,000 square-foot free-standing emergency room will be held on Sept. 21. The company is also in the planning phase for an additional facility that will — at a minimum — offer access to specialty services that are not currently available in the Livingston area such as a 24-hour cardiac cath lab, endocrinology and hematology. But, Dr. Ansari quickly adds, that additional facility could be a full service acute care hospital. He says his company existing hospital organizations have expressed an interest in collaborating for such a facility and negotiations are under way. “We want to change the landscape in Livingston,” Dr. Ansari said. “We start with the Emergency Room. Patients are not a commodity, they are human beings. They are our parents, sisters, brothers, wives and children and they need to be treated that way. If you save one life, you save humanity.” “It wasn’t easy to decide to jump into a $5 million project, but we have looked at the community and what’s available doesn’t meet the needs,” Ansari said. “You have to take care of people like you would want to be taken care of,” he added.”
