LIVINGSTON — A Cleveland woman was taken to the Polk County jail Wednesday evening after sheriff’s deputies were called to U.S. 59 south near Goodrich and found her nude on the edge of the roadway. A Polk County couple thought Cynthia Lovely, 52, of Cleveland, was a stranded motorist standing outside her vehicle, a two-toned van and they stopped to pick her up in San Jacinto County. The man (who asked not to be identified) said they had driven about 15 miles when Lovely began to exhibit unusual behavior. “We weren’t talking and she just started giggling,” he said. “Then we asked her where she was going and she said ‘Bethlehem’.” He offered to help her get gas or some other help to get her vehicle going again. Then she announced she had missed her stop, so they pulled over just north of Goodrich. She got out of the car and sat down on the pavement, the man said. He believed she was in danger of being hit by a passing car so he called the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. “Then she pulled off her clothes and folded them up in a neat pile beside the road,” he added. Six or seven additional vehicles stopped. One of the people who attempted to help keep the woman out of the highway was a part-time preacher in Jasper, the man said. The couple and the preacher managed to convince the woman to sit in the preacher’s car and covered her with an emergency blanket from the couple’s car. “But if anyone tried to talk to her much, she’d throw the blanket off,” the man said. Two patrol cars arrived on the scene and they spent several minutes trying to get the woman to identify herself and get dressed. She was then taken to the Polk County jail. A records check showed she had outstanding warrants in San Jacinto County. She was released from the Polk County jail and taken into custody by the SJCSO.
