Community band concert slated Monday
LIVINGSTON -- The annual Christmas Concert of the Livingston Area Community Band will be Monday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Under the direction of Lowell Clark, the band has presented a Christmas Concert each year since they started 18 years ago. There are 40 members, ranging in age from high school to retired. They all have one thing in common; they enjoy the thrill of making music together. Several members of the band are currently active or retired band directors. Four of the retired band directors have each agreed to conduct one of the selections to be performed at the concert. David Smith is originally from Donna, Texas and currently lives in Lufkin, where he directs the Lufkin Community Band. Smith will direct "Fantasia on We Three Kings." Gerald Fagen, originally from Marshall, Texas is a long-time resident of the Livingston area and a former director of the Corrigan- Camden High School and Livingston Middle School band. Fagen will conduct "A Christmas Festival." Richard Butler is originally from Michigan. He has taught bands in Michigan, Iowa, South Carolina and currently directs the Goodrich band on a part-time basis. Butler will direct "Carol of the Drum." Steve Richardson is from Kirbyville, Texas and has been band director at several school around the Houston area. He now resides in Westwood Shores near Trinity. Richardson will direct "Midnight Sleigh Ride." Several other popular Christmas selections will be heard, including "White Christmas" and "Christmas Recollections." The concert will last about an hour and is considered a gift to the people in the Livingston area from your Community Band, so admission is free. Bring your family and enjoy hearing all the great songs of Christmas.
