Driver faces charge of intoxication manslaughter in crash on Old Israel Rd.
BY VALERIE REDDELL
LIVINGSTON — The driver of a Ford Ranger involved in a rollover crash at 9:10 p.m. Friday that killed one passenger and sent another to a Houston hospital by air ambulance is being held in the Polk County Jail charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and detained pending an investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement into his immigration status. A crash report by Livingston Police Officer Lenneth Gardner shows that the 1996 Ford Ranger was southbound on FM 1316 (Old Israel Road). Francisco Javiel Galeano-Caceres, 31, was laughing and joking inside the vehicle with his passengers, Fernando Torres, 27, and Daniel Diaz, 41. The driver failed to maintain a single lane and left the roadway to the right. The driver attempted to bring the vehicle back onto the road and the truck struck two mailboxes and it flipped across the road. Gardner's report says that one of the passengers bumped into the driver while he was operating the vehicle. The driver also told Gardener that all three had been drinking prior to getting on the road.
