2nd arrest made after 7 month probe of shooting death of Rhett Lathan
LIVINGSTON — On Monday, Timothy Leggett, the husband of Rachel Leggett, the woman who was originally indicted for the Oct. 12, 2012 shooting death of 16-year-old Rhett Cyrvin Lathan, was arrested for murder, aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the shooting. In a statement released by the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Lt. Craig Finegan said Leggett was being charged with the three counts after the seven month long investigation into the shooting by PCSO, the Polk County District Attorney's Office along with the Texas Ranger's Office. "Timothy Leggett was questioned by authorities as a person of interest in the shooting," Finegan said. Authorities believe Rachel Leggett is suspected of covering for her husband in the shooting death." The investigation is continuing before the case against Timothy Leggett is finally turned over to the District Attorney's office for their review, the statement continued. Bond was set at $200,000 on the murder charge and $100,000 for each of the aggravated assault charges. The aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury charge relates to the injury suffered by Rhett Lathan prior to his death.
