Many of the area's high schools will graduate its Class of 2013 this week. One high school, Corrigan- Camden, held its ceremonies this past Friday. Chester, Onalaska, Goodrich, Big Sandy and Leggett High School will have its graduation on Friday. All will be at 7 p.m. except Chester, which will be at 8 p.m. Livingston will graduate seniors at 10 a.m. Saturday. All ceremonies will take place in each high school's gymnasium. Goodrich Valedictorian Rubina Pina said she is looking forward to Friday's events after the effort put into high school. "I feel accomplished, my cousin was Valedictorian and I have always looked up to him," Pina said. So, I guess it was a goal of mine, but it was mostly trying hard no matter what." Pina said the hard work comes at a price. "I guess you miss out on a lot of different things that other people are into. If you get invited to a party, it's better to stay at home and study. Most people learn studying techniques, but ever since first grade I have been a straight A student. So, I just got used to it, and tried my hardest to make all A's every semester." The student with a 4.0 grade point average said she took several honors classes at Goodrich, making coursework in English, history and physics even more difficult. Her plans for college will take Pina to Huntsville to attend Sam Houston State University. She wants to major in business and psychology, with the hope of one day opening her own practice. Pina said she selected Sam Houston for its location and her familiarity with the school. "It's a family school, most of my cousins went there," Pina said. "I'm really close to my mom. That's a big bonus. I like that it's small, but not too small and it's a really pretty campus too. Valedictorians and salutatorians for area schools are as follows: Kaleb Bendy and Sara Grimes Chester, Hunter Bryant and Shaelyn Lewis of Onalaska, Rubina Pina and Jessica Torres of Goodrich, Makenzie Dickens and Ashton Creel of Big Sandy, Alyssa Ener and Kacie Dewberry of Corrigan-Camden, Isai Hernandez and Makaela Prigmore of Leggett, and Annie Robison and Landon Parker of Livingston.
