Trustees OK purchase of band instruments

The Livingston Independent School District gave its approval to several educational trips for its students during Monday's meeting. The Livingston High band was approved to participate in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C. Cost estimates range from $960 to $1,211 per person for the three or fourday trip. The trip will include hotel, dinner at local restaurants, sightseeing tours to several landmarks and memorials and attendance to the National Memorial Day Concert at the U.S. capitol. The board also decided to purchase band equipment for the coming school year. Though three bass sousaphones were scheduled for discussion, superintendant Dr. Darrell Myers said the band has four students who play the instrument. Four bass sousaphones and various drums will be purchased at approximately $36,000 for the high school band. After discussing the expiring term of Marilyn Bettes as TASB Region 6 representative, board members will reaffirm support of Bettes after she indicated intent to seek re-election. Also approved Monday was the Future Farmers of America overnight trips to Dallas for its State Speaking and Talent Contest and to Trinity for Officer Leadership
