CORRIGAN — Corrigan Police Officer Dana Vanya was setting up to work radar on U.S. 287 East when a gray SUV passed in excess of 70 miles per hour at 4:06 p.m. The vehicle went off the road during a pursuit and the occupants bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Witnesses in a residential neighborhood the males ran through said they saw three black males run by. Vanya, forced to keep an eye on afternoon traffic, could only be certain she saw two. Corrigan police officers were quickly joined by deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and search dogs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Polunsky Unit. Two suspects were apprehended before dark. Among the items found in the abandoned vehicle were several televisions and guns. Those were secured until it could be determined whether they were the items taken in at least one burglary reported in Trinity County Monday. Detectives were checking surrounding areas for reports of stolen property as part of the investigation.
