Filing to begin for city, school races

LIVINGSTON- The deadline to apply for May's elections are fast approaching, and several school board and city council positions will be open for voting. Many applications to enter the May 10 ballot are currently available. Applications can be turned in as soon as Jan. 29 and the deadline will be Feb. 28. Onalaska's Pobla Gallier's Position 4 school board seat is available, as well as Greg Cook's Position 7 seat. The Onalaska City Council will have two seats available, currently belonging to Chip Chote and James Arnett. Mayor Roy Newport will also have his mayoral seat on the ballot. In Goodrich, Molly Woods and Christine Wright's at large positions will be available on the school board. City council members Susan Ryman, Nita Gokey and Cindy Vail's seats will also be decided in May. In Corrigan, Mayor Wayne Geeslin, George Murphy in Position 2 and Earlie Baldwin in Position 4 will be up for election. The Corrigan-Camden School Board will elect positions 1, 2 and 3, which are currently held by Sue Morrison, Marvin Hurlay and Sean Burks, respectively. In Livingston, Aldermen Ray Hill and Bill Wiggins will have their seats decided. Mayor Clark Evans' current term will also be finished. School boards in Livingston, Leggett, Big Sandy and Chester will all hold their elections on November 14th of this year. No information was found for the city of Seven Oaks. To vote in Texas, you must be registered. The last day to register for voting in the March 4 Primary Election is Feb. 3. Pick up a voter registration application at a library, any government office or download one from votetexas. gov. Upon acceptance, a voter registration will be effective 30 days from registration.
