Ladycats go undefeated to win District 24-A title
DALLARDSVILLE—Ten wins in a row!! That's what it took for the Big Sandy Ladycats, under Coach Ryan Alec, to send a standing room only crowd at Foster Gymnasium home with happy, smiling faces. For the second time this season, it took a winning 3-point shot to seal a victory over the Evadale Lady Rebels. Friday's long distance trey was buried by Nicole Langley. The senior Ladycat hit the winning shot with less than three seconds left on the clock to secure a thrilling 52-51 win for the home team. It was a definite case of deja vu for these two teams. During their first district matchup at Evadale, junior Whitney Tolar tossed in a 3-pointer in the final seconds to win the game by the same margin. This latest victory earned the Ladycats the top hardware in district as they claimed the 24-A championship with a successful 10-0 record in league play. The Ladycats, 17-11 for the year, will earn a first round bye in the Class 1A Division 1 state basketball playoffs. The post-season bracket has the Ladycats playing the winner of 21A runner-up Neches or third place Tenaha from 22A in the Area round on Feb. 13-15. Members of the Ladycat basketball team are, Kierra Williams, Carol Tanton, Madison Green, Aleia Williams, Nicole Langley, Elaina Bullock, Brooklyn Battise, Jaycie Williams, Whittney Tolar, Camille Johnson and Tahwnee Williams.
