A 1997 Honda Accord driven by 19-year-old Christopher Andrew Caballero of Diboll was westbound and the driver, who was highly intoxicated, failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, according to Trooper Kevin Burman. The car slipped onto the highway shoulder on the westbound side and struck a culvert. The back half of the vehicle was cut off by the impact and came to rest in the treeline, Burman indicated. The front half of the car came to rest on the highway shoulder. Caballero, listed with incapacitating injuries, was transported by medical helicopter to a Nacogdoches hospital.
