Local student performs anthem at HLSR event
LIVINGSTON -- Livingston FFA member Myra Monteaux received an opportunity last week that few get. She was chosen to sing the national anthem at the opening ceremony of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Junior Market Steer Show on Wednesday, March 19. "It was really exciting, I was nervous, and I was more worried about singing the wrong words," Monteaux said laughing. "I was trying to focus really hard. It was good though, it was fun and I got to meet a lot of people. It was a good experience." Local rodeo fans will also hear Monteaux at the rodeo portion of the 69th Annual Trinity-Neches Livestock Show and Rodeo, which begins Thursday at 7 p.m. Public singing is nothing new to the Livingston High School senior, beginning at Family Life Church as a youth, then local sporting events, a Special Olympic league and advancing to state while in FFA to sing in front of 11,000 people. The daughter of Kenneth and Ellie Montreaux currently busies herself with school and work. She plans to attend school locally at Angelina College in Livingston and work when she is not studying to be a physical therapist.
