Social media tip ends with arrest
LIVINGSTON – A 56-year-old Onalaska man was arrested April 1 on a burglary charge after Livingston police received a tip generated through social media. Robert William Colby was taken into custody at his residence on the felony burglary of a habitation charge. According to police, during his arrest Colby resisted the officers and was subsequently found to be in possession of a controlled substance and marijuana. He was booked into the Polk County Jail in Livingston on four charges and was ordered held under bonds totaling $63,000. Investigators said the burglary of a South Houston Avenue residence was discovered March 28 when the homeowner was notified that an alarm had been activated at the residence. The Livingston Police Department was called and upon arrival, officers found that entry had been made into the residence and an undisclosed amount of items were stolen. The investigation continued and officers learned from the homeowner that the home was equipped with video surveillance. After receiving the surveillance video, investigators made it available on social media for the public to view and assist in identifying the suspect. After an anonymous tip from a viewer and follow up investigation, a suspect was developed along with further evidence.
