Livingston cadets earn skill awards
LIVINGSTON -- Cadets from the Livingston High School JROTC attended the Gulf Coast Military Skills Meet at LaPorte High School Saturday to take part in competition with high school Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps units from across the state. The "Big Cat Battalion" competed in color guard, a physical fitness test, ranger swim, inner tube relay, an academic challenge, orienteering and tug-of-war. At the end of the day, the Big Cats had earned two trophies. They secured a second place trophy for the female color guard and a second place trophy in tug-of-war. Additionally, two cadets earned top individual honors in orienteering. Amber Litchfield earned first place for advanced orienteering and Alissa Hudson placed first for intermediate orienteering. The 31 cadets were supported by the JROTC Booster Club, who provided lunch and refreshments throughout the day. The next event for the Big Cat Battalion will be a bake sale on Jan. 18 at Walmart beginning at 8 a.m.
