SPCA in immediate need of food, litter

Polk County Enterprise

LIVINGSTON -- Due to an increased number of animals in their care, the SPCA of Polk County is in immediate need of dog food and cat litter, according to Executive Director Carl Feren. "For the past six months, our food donations were keeping up with our food use but this week our use exceeded our intake and unless we get some food soon we will need to buy some," he said. "Specifically, we need 20 pounds of puppy chow per day, 50 pounds of adult dog food per day plus a halfdozen cans of quality canned dog food per day and about 40 pounds of kitty litter each day. "Cat food is not a problem as we have plenty of that. We use the cheapest kitty litter available as we throw it out each day to minimize the spread of disease and our preferred dog food is Pedigree as it seems to be the best all around. By sticking with one brand, it reduces instances of diarrhea and other digestive disorders," he said. Those who can help are asked to bring food or litter donations to the office located behind the main building at 802 S Houston Ave or have it shipped using AmazonSmile and select as the charity: "Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Polk County, Texas". Those who have PRIME will receive free shipping. To establish an Amazon Smile Account go online and follow the instructions at the following link. http://smile.amazon.com/ gp/chpf/about/ref=smi_aas_ redirect… Office hours for the SPCA office are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
