LIVINGSTON — A traffic light controller box was crushed during a two-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Abbey Street and Washington (Business 59) in Livingston. Shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, the driver of a silver Chrysler Town and Country minivan, Sue Barnett, 78, of Livingston, was traveling northbound on Business 59 and attempted to turn left on Abbey Street. However, Barnett reportedly failed to yield for a white Kia Forte, driven by Christina Ritter, 22, of Livingston, traveling southbound on Business 59. The two vehicles hit, which caused Ritter's car to slide left and crash straight into a traffic light controller box at the end of West Abbey. Barnett's vehicle spun around and came to a rest by an adjacent business. Local EMS was dispatched to the scene, although no significant injuries were reported. Officers with the Livingston Police Department also arrived, along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department. Southbound traffic on Business 59 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. The damage to the traffic light controller box was repaired on Thursday. Barnett was reportedly cited for failure to yield. Both vehicles, which sustained heavy damage, were later transported by wrecker.
