Interim chief named for Leggett ISD

LEGGETT – Trustees for Leggett Independent School District named Vicki Jones as interiim principal during a special meeting June 1, district officials said Wednesday.

Jones was approved to act as “administrator in charge of campus” through June 30 and continuing through the summer until administrative positions are filled.

With the pending resignation of Ryan Skelton, who has been junior high and high school principal and served as acting superintendent for much of the 2006-07 school year.

Skelton will provide weekly written status reports to board members on the status of curriculum plans, programs and budget for the upcoming year. His last work day with the district will be June 29.

The interim principal was given authority to hire aides and non-contract staff and make other decisions necessary to ensure a smooth opening of school next year.

Leggett trustees will hold another special meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday to review applications for the superintendent’s position.
