Goodrich trustees hire elementary principal
Polk County Enterprise, March 2007
GOODRICH — School board members hired a Klein ISD assistant principal as Goodrich Elementary principal during a called meeting Tuesday night.
Dr. Katherine Washington has a background in math and science with classroom experience at all grade levels, Superintendent Guylene Robertson said.
The board voted 5 to 1 to extend the contract for the high school counselor, but split 3-3 on whether to extend the high school principal and athetic director contracts, according to Robertson.
Decisions on teacher contracts are typically addressed at GISD’s March meeting, so those administrative positions will be discussed further March 22.
Trustees rescheduled the regular March meeting from the normal monthly schedule to avoid conflicts with spring break, March 12 to March 16.
Tuesday’s meeting was also held off-schedule since two prior scheduled dates had to be canceled for failing to achieve a quorum when board members were out of town or ill.
Goodrich’s calendar for the 2007-08 school year also was approved Tuesday. The first day of classes for students will be Aug. 27, Robertson said. Holidays remain substantially the same as this year and graduation is set for June 6.
Robertson announced that Goodrich Middle School won the Governor’s Award based on TAKS results and earned a gold performance standard on other evaluation criteria.
The campus is in the early planning stages for a celebration for the honor, which includes a $40,000 bonus.
Trustees also discussed other recent district accomplishments, the basketball team advancing to state playoffs and the State Farm Service Learning grant.
