Deputies jail woman in Scenic Loop shooting
Polk County Enterprise - February 2008
LIVINGSTON — A felony warrant for murder was issued Tuesday for the arrest of Cynthia Lynn Duplechain, 41, of Livingston in connection with the shooting death of Raymond Keith Rhodes on Dec. 8, 2007, Captain Rickie Childers of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a press conference Tuesday.
The woman was already in custody at the Polk County jail on a $100,000 bond on a charge of theft of a firearm.
She had been arrested at her residence on Jan. 11 after investigators received a tip from Crime Stoppers that she had the .22 caliber handgun missing from Rhodes’ home since the time of the shooting.
Rhodes suffered a gunshot wound to the head at his home on Dec. 8. Family members found him at his Shelter Cove mobile home after he did not answer phone calls.
Rhodes was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston by LifeFlight and he died several days later, Childers said.
Ballistics tests have confirmed that the .22 handgun found in Duplechain’s residence was the murder weapon, Childers said.
When the firearm theft was featured in Crime Stoppers information, investigators received several statements from witnesses that implicated the woman in the shooting.
The investigation into Rhodes’ death lasted two months.
