Reward offered in cable theft

LIVINGSTON —Polk CountyCrime Stoppers are offering a cashreward for information on the theft of a large amount of copper tele-phone wire removed from poles atthe underpass of U.S. 59 south.Livingston Police Sgt. Lewis Milner was patrolling on the U.S.59 South bypass feeder road whenhe spotted a white male possi-bly in his late teens or early 20sdressed in full camouflage hold-ing a pair of bolt cutters.The man was standing close tothe south turnaround at the edgeof a ditch and ran when he saw Sgt. Milner.
When Milner arrived at the spotwhere the man had been standinghe saw two pieces of multiplewire telephone cable.Additional LPD units arrived at the East Texas Asphalt Plantlocated on the south side of the creek Milner observed the subject crossing.Numer-ous other pieces of cable were located on the groundnear the site the cable was cut.
Marks on the telephone pole indicated it hadrecently been scaled using climb-ing spikes.Officers also recovered a soft drink cup from a nearby fast foodrestaurant and are reviewing se-curity video.
