City, school candidates have until 5 p.m. Monday to fi le for open seats

LIVINGSTON – Filing ends at 5 p.m. Monday, March 10 for the May 10 city council and area school board elections. Three positions on the Livingston Independent School District Board of Trustees will be fi lled through the election, those presently held by Trustees Bea Ellis, Jeff Galloway and Ben R. Ogletree, III. As of Wednesday, Ellis, Galloway and Ogletree had all fi led for re-election.

Three positions are expiring on the Livingston City Council. On the ballot will be the position of mayor, presently held by Ben R. Ogletree, Jr.; and two council posts, those presently held by Gene Bush and Ray Hill. Mayor Ogletree is not seeking re-election. Dr. William Watson and present council member Clarke Evans have both fi led to run for the mayoral position. Billy Sol Wiggins, Scott Simpson and incumbent Ray Hill have all fi led for city council as of Wednesday.

Two positions on the Onalaska ISD Board of Trustees will be on the ballot: Position 4, now held by Pobla Gallier and Position 7, presently held by Joel Wilde. Both have fi led for re-election and face no challengers as of Wednesday. On the Onalaska City Council, the position of mayor, now held by Lew Vail; and two at-large council seats, presently held by Tom Edwards and Althea Elliott, will be fi lled through the election. As of Wednesday, Vail and Edwards had both fi led for re-election along with Brandon Smith.

Voters in the City of Corrigan will also be selecting a mayor and two council members. The mayor’s post is presently held by Grimes Fortune. Council seats on the ballot include Position 2, which is currently held by Benny Gonzalez and Position 4, now held by Diedre Cornelius, both incumbents have fi led for re-election and are unopposed as of Wednesday. Three positions will be filled on the Corrigan Camden ISD Board of Trustees. Incumbents David Ray (Position 1), Steve Wilson (Position 2) and Ryan Burris (Position 3) have all filed for re-election.

Also filing are Johnna Wilson for Position 1, Ronnie Dees for Position 2, and Sean Burks for Position 3. Two positions on the Goodrich ISD Board of Trustees will be filled. Incumbents Bobby Gokey, Jr. and Molly Woods are running unopposed as of Wednesday for positions 1 and 2. Polk County Freshwater District No. 2 will also hold board elections. Two at-large positions now held by Fred Alderman and Clyde Cates will be filled by voters. As of Wednesday, Alderman and Bobby Williams have filed for positions.
