Fire danger remains high

LIVINGSTON — Escaped debris fi res continue to pose a big risk according to fi re offi cials at the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department and the Texas Forest Service. Crews from the Alabama Coushatta Tribal Fire Department, Livingston VFD and the Texas Fire Service battled a fire Sunday that destroyed five acres, according to Frank Sylestine with the Texas Forest Service. A debris fire just north of the Livingston city limits Saturday afternoon may result in criminal charges, fire officials say. County Fire Marshal is investigating the debris fire that may have contained items that are illegal to burn at any time. Banned items include tires, nonwood construction debris, furniture, carpet, electrical wire and appliances, according to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
